Long walks are out...

My sister, niece and I decided to take the three doggies for a walk. It was such a beautiful sunny day, unusual for mid March. We walked about 3 km. I knew that it was a couple of blocks too much. My foot hurt.
It didn't take long for my foot to start tightening up once I got home. I took 2 advil but the pain was pretty bad, about 5. It lasted all evening. That was yesterday. Even today, my foot is still more sore than usual. I enjoy parking my car 1 km. from work and walking but I guess a 3k walk was too much.

How are you doing now. I had a very similar injury on Sept. 26th, 2008 with an ORIF done on Oct. 14th. All 5 metatarsals were involved. I went back to work fulltime as a nurse earlier this month. I am thankful to be walking...with my limp! I hope that my injury continues to improve becasue my mild limp is driving me nuts! My hardware is still in place and the OS plans to leave it unless it becomes a problem. I have been following your blog for quite some time...THANK YOU!

I had no clue that this blog would help so many people, I was simply trying to document my progress for my own selfish reasons LOL. I am thrilled that it has helped others because there is very little info out there.
For you, I was AMAZED at the difference in my foot after the hardware was removed. Right away I felt movement in the joint and my limp is so much better. It's not gone and there are triggers but I was really, really glad I chose to have the screws out.
How did you hurt your foot?

Believe it or not...I was staining my kids' playset when the ladder tipped. I fell about 4 feet. My foot twisted in the ladder and on the ground. My first two mets fractured and the other three dislocated. I'm afraid of hardware removal because I'm afraid of things shifting. I'm only 33 years old and hoping that this continues to improve since I'm not quite 7 months post op yet. Almost everything I have read is negative and depressing so I hope there really are more success stories out there that haven't been told. Would've rather broken a leg or an arm...haha!! Thanks again!

I do consider this 'life altering' bcause it will never heal completely. However, learning how to cope to make life easier is what I am trying to do now.
I originally refused to have the hardware out but my limp was very frustrating. I felt I had to rule out everything and that started with getting the screws out. I, too, was hesitant but it turned out to be the best decision...for me anyway.
